During National Adopt a Cat Month in June, radio talent, Lindsey from KHTB Alt. 94.9 FM spent 57 hours living and broadcasting her midday show at the Humane Society of Utah to raise awareness and donations for Utah’s homeless pets. Arriving the morning of Monday, June 1, Lindsey set a goal to remain at the shelter until $3,000 in supplies and donations was received for the animals. Donations valued at $3,148.00 were collected by Wednesday, allowing Lindsey to finally go home that evening.

“I wish all these animals could go home with me,” said Lindsey after sleeping two nights among the shelter cats.

Fans could view Lindsey’s living conditions in Kitty City at the Humane Society of Utah via live webcam and interact with the shelter cats through a robotic cat toy system called the iPet Companion on the www.alt949.com and www.utahhumane.org websites.

“I’ve learned a lot about what the Humane Society of Utah does during my stay,” said Lindsey. “Whether people donate their time, money or supplies, every bit helps the animals in so many ways.”

Camping supplies and apparel were provided by Gear 30 in Ogden and three meals a day were delivered to Lindsey by Honey Baked Ham.

Over 300 kittens have been taken in by the Humane Society of Utah so far this season. There is a great need for volunteers and supplies to foster these kittens until they are ready for adoption. The surplus of young kittens creates a challenge for older adult cats at the shelter to find new homes. To encourage adopting adult cats, felines over 4 years of age have a waived adoption fee with approved adoption questionnaire.
