Max's Story

In August, I will of had Max for 3 years. Max was with a family, we're guessing for about 2-3 years before being given up, reasons unknown. He went into the shelter. He then went to another family for a whole year, but went back into the shelter. For 3 whole months he was there, after the loss of 2 families there was no hope for him. My family was looking for a shih-tzu, and we went to the Humane Society. They said there was Max, and a another at a pet store named Mickey. We were told Max does not like to share his toys, that he likes children, or cats. We have 1 cat, and the youngest kid at the time was 10. We took Max anyway. He is very ugly. He has lopsided ears, an underbite, stubby legs, and eyes that always go different directions. Still, we took him anyway. It was a very difficult first couple of weeks. He bit almost everyone in the family, and we were thinking about giving him back. Yet, we kept him.

3 years later, we could not be happier. It turns out, people just needed to spend time with him more, because he's a very different dog. He's actually afraid of my cat. He LOVES to cuddle. As soon as you get on the couch he'll jump up with you. True, he doesn't like children, and we are careful of that. When he's playing with his toys, he does growl. The thing is, he's only playing!
